The Most Common Website Questions Answered: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at In Flow Design Co.

If you’ve ever considered working with us on your website or even tackled a DIY website project yourself, chances are you’ve had some pressing questions about the process.

After years of consultation calls, I’ve noticed certain questions pop up time and time again. So, in this post, I’m breaking down some of the most frequently asked questions about websites, templates, and our process at In Flow Design Co.

Grab a coffee, and let’s dive in!

1. What Can Be Customized in a Template?

Great question! Our templates are incredibly versatile and designed with flexibility in mind. At their core, you can customize all the key visual elements like colors, fonts, and images. We also personalize your website’s text, so it speaks directly to your ideal client.

Depending on the package you choose, customization options expand even further. For example, our base-level package focuses on updating branding and visuals without altering the structure of the template. Meanwhile, our higher-level packages allow for more extensive layout changes, such as reordering sections, adding pages, or even integrating new design elements to better reflect your brand’s personality.

For DIYers, the sky’s the limit—you have full control over the entire template. Whether you’re tech-savvy or just getting started, our templates offer a user-friendly starting point that empowers you to bring your vision to life.

2. How Can Templates Look Unique If Others Are Using Them?

This is a common concern, especially among those in competitive industries like travel or coaching. Here’s the key: branding! When we update the colors, fonts, and photos to align with your brand’s identity, it completely transforms the look and feel of the template.

Even if two businesses start with the same template, their websites will look distinct because branding reflects each client’s unique style and target audience. For those who want their site to stand out even more, we offer semi-custom packages where we can adjust layouts and integrate new design styles. These options ensure your website aligns perfectly with your brand while maintaining a polished, professional feel.

3. What About Photos? Do I Need to Provide Them?

We understand that finding the right photos can be overwhelming, which is why we’ve streamlined this part of the process. We source photos for you using our Adobe Stock subscription, ensuring they align with your brand’s aesthetic and messaging. After filling out a detailed questionnaire about your business and ideal client, we handpick images that resonate with your brand’s story.

For travel professionals, we encourage incorporating supplier photos whenever possible. These authentic images elevate your website’s quality and create a more bespoke, high-end feel that stock photos alone might not achieve.

If you’ve had a brand photo shoot, we can seamlessly integrate those images as well. And don’t worry—you’ll have the final say on all photos during the editing phase, so your website reflects your vision perfectly.

4. How Do I Make Edits After the Site Is Live?

We believe in empowering our clients to take ownership of their websites. After launch, you’ll receive tutorials that guide you through common edits, such as swapping images, updating text, and adding blog posts. These step-by-step instructions are designed to make post-launch changes simple and stress-free.

If DIY edits aren’t your style, we’ve got you covered. You’re welcome to come back to us for assistance with updates, whether they’re small tweaks or larger adjustments. We offer flat-rate quotes based on your specific needs, giving you the flexibility to choose what works best for you.

5. What Platform Do You Use, and Are There Other Costs?

We use Showit, an intuitive platform that combines creative flexibility with ease of use. Showit’s hosting plans range from $30/month to $288/year for the standard plan, which includes blogging capabilities. While Showit handles your website’s hosting, you’ll also need to purchase a domain name separately through platforms like GoDaddy or Namecheap.

When you work with us, we ensure everything is set up correctly, but owning your hosting account and domain gives you full control over your website—a key aspect of long-term success.

6. Can My Website Handle Payments and Contracts?

While Showit isn’t designed for e-commerce, it integrates seamlessly with tools like CRM systems. For travel professionals or coaches, we recommend platforms like HoneyBook, Dubsado, or Travify to handle contracts, payments, and client management.

Your website serves as the front door to your business, while these systems manage client relationships behind the scenes. This setup ensures a smooth, professional experience for both you and your clients.

7. What Do I Need to Provide?

Here’s a quick checklist of what we’ll need from you during the design process:

  • Copywriting: The text for your website’s pages, including blog posts if applicable. If you’re not confident in your writing, we can recommend copywriters to help.
  • Images: Whether it’s professional photos, supplier images, or curated stock photos, these bring your site to life.
  • Logins: For email marketing platforms, calendars, or other integrations.
  • Legal Pages: Terms and conditions and privacy policies are required for your website. We can recommend ready-to-use templates to simplify this step.
  • Opt-in Freebie: If you’re offering a lead magnet (e.g., a guide or checklist), you’ll need to provide the content. We can help design it to match your branding.

Your involvement is crucial to ensuring the final result exceeds your expectations. Open communication and timely feedback are key!

8. How Long Does the Process Take?

Timelines vary depending on the level of customization and the client’s responsiveness. On average:

  • Basic template customizations: 4–6 weeks
  • Semi-custom designs: 6–8 weeks

Clients who provide quick feedback and have minimal revisions can see their websites launched even sooner. However, delays in communication can extend the timeline, so we encourage active participation throughout the process.

Bonus: Payment Plan Options

We understand that investing in a website is a significant decision. To make it more accessible, we offer flexible payment plans:

  • Pay-in-full for a streamlined process
  • 50/50 split: Half upfront, half at project completion
  • Monthly installments based on the project timeline
  • Six-month payment plans for added flexibility

There are no additional fees for payment plans, ensuring this investment works for your budget.
